Colonoscopy Prep — Quick Guide
Your exact prep may differ. Follow the instructions provided by our clinic and ask us if anything is unclear.
1–2 weeks before
  • Driver required after sedation—arrange a ride.
  • Tell us about blood thinners, antiplatelets, diabetes meds, and GLP‑1s. Do not stop without our plan.
  • Stop iron unless we advise otherwise.
3 days before
  • Shift to a low‑fiber diet: avoid nuts, seeds, popcorn, corn, raw veggies, salads, and whole grains.
  • Hydrate well.
Day before (typical split‑dose prep)
  • Clear liquids only after breakfast.
  • Allowed: water, broth, tea/coffee (no cream), sports drinks, clear juices (apple/white grape), gelatin, ice pops.
  • Avoid red or purple liquids.
  • 5–7 PM: Drink the first half of the bowel prep as directed.
Day of procedure
  • 5 hours before your arrival time: Drink the second half of the prep.
  • Finish at least 3 hours before you check in.
  • Take approved morning medications with small sips of water.
  • Wear comfortable clothing; bring ID/insurance and a medication list.
If stools are not running clear yellow by morning, call us—we can help salvage the prep.
Tips for success
  • Chill the prep; use a straw and split into small doses.
  • Alternate sips of prep with clear liquids you like.
  • Use petroleum jelly or zinc oxide to protect the skin.
  • If you’re nauseated, pause 15–30 minutes, then resume; call us if vomiting persists.
Medication reminders
  • We’ll give a personalized plan for blood thinners/antiplatelets.
  • Diabetes/GLP‑1 meds: Doses may change before and the morning of your procedure.
Important
  • Your prep may not match this summary. Always follow the specific prep kit and clinic instructions you received.
